Cirian-Marie Beddoes RD

Firstly I love what I do... my interest in this area started as an overweight teenager and has never really faded!!

I qualified as a registered Dietitian in 1997 then worked as a clinical Dietitian for 3 years at Northampton General Hospital. During this time I had experience of managing the nutritional needs of I.T.U, Radiotherapy, general medical wards, Diabetes and Cardic rehab.

I then worked as the County lead as a Public Health Specialist for the NHS where I developed both adult and childhood weight management programmes and wrote the Obesity & Physical Activity Strategy for Northamptonshire.

As a consultant Dietitian I have managed my own business - Why Weight? since 2000, specialising in adult, family and childhood lifestyle management. I finally left the NHS (June 2006) - with a little help from an uncomfortable management relationship which finally helped me move from my ‘comfy chair’ I met Leigh at a spin class in 2006 after trying to regain my fitness after a ‘bad’ back and the rest, you might say, is history.

In the past 6 months we have worked to develop our ideas into reality. We have an unfaltering belief that everyone has a right to reach their true potential both physically and mentally and nutrition and fitness are often overlooked as vital to ‘life’. Setting up the Activity site and gym and all the accompanying services and facilities is to breathe life into our ideas and dreams but also into all the children, adults and families that we will come into contact with.

Well I bring the activity element to the business.

Since qualifying as an instructor in 1994 I have dedicated my career to helping others to understand and enjoy the benefits of leading an active and balanced life.

I have extensive experience through managing, creating, teaching and consulting in all areas of exercise, nutrition and activity. With the added experience of running my own personal training consultancy and fitness studio for ten years, then holding a senior strategic post within local government promoting sustainable transport - I have true first hand knowledge of how to engage people in making lasting positive changes within their lives.

I have a natural and infectious enthusiasm which has inspired many a flagging client and class over the years. Everything I do I approach it with a sense of humor and a little fun – lets face it, you only perform any given task or discipline consistently if you enjoy it - and it’s only consistency that yields results.

Many things have changed in the fitness industry since I began - but some rules I believe are absolute; People will only really change when they understand fully the consequences of their actions and take complete responsibility for them. When a person has resolved this and they feel comfortable, listened to and understood, it is possible to start changing their lives. Very often it isn’t by designing the ‘perfect’ stomach program or working the ‘core’, it’s by having people understand how activity must be worked in to their everyday life. A really outstanding coach can make exercise fit a client, not the other way around.

I am qualified through the Y.M.C.A, The Wright Foundation, Polar, Schwinn, Johnny G Spinning, Trixter and Hold a Diploma in Sports Psychology. I am a practitioner of NLP, a Reps registered advanced instructor and certified in exercise and mental health. In my spare time (?) I am a warranted scout leader and run my own scout troup.
